Karnataka DGP-CRE Ramachandra Rao suspended after obscene video goes viral

Hours after a video of K. Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement) behaving inappropriately surfaced, the State Government has suspended him, following allegations of obscene conduct.

An order issued late on Monday (January 19, 2026), stated that Mr. Rao acted in an obscene manner which is unbecoming of a government servant and also causing embarrassment to the Government.

The order, cites prima facie violation of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. Suspension was enforced under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, pending inquiry.

Mr. Rao has been barred from leaving headquarters without prior approval and will receive subsistence allowance as per rules.

Mr. Rao who was under the scanner in the gold smuggling case involving his stepdaughter, has been mired in controversy again after a video of him behaving inappropriately with a woman in his office surfaced. Two audio recordings were also released where Mr. Rao was heard chatting with a woman .
