Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lost his cool and lashed out at the Opposition multiple times in the Legislative Assembly following repeated and unrelenting interruptions while he was speaking on the resolution against the VB-G RAM G Act.
At least twice during Tuesday’s session, the Chief Minister angrily asked the members of the treasury benches, who were watching the debate, to stand up and launch a counter-attack at the Opposition.
As the Chief Minister tabled the resolution against the new law that has replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, BJP members insisted that the resolution should be modified to indicate that only the government and the ruling Congress were opposed to the new job scheme and that seven days prior notice should have been given.
Though Speaker U.T. Khader gave a ruling that the advance notice rule did not apply to resolutions tabled by the government, the pandemonium continued. This led to the House being adjourned and the Speaker trying to broker peace between the Opposition and the treasury benches.
However, as the Chief Minister restarted the debate on the resolution, the Opposition members continued to interrupt him, angering Mr. Siddaramaiah.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister lost his cool over prolonged debate on the alleged Excise scandal, delaying the resolution against the VB G Ram G Act, 2026. “The session for Tuesday and Wednesday is solely dedicated to debate on resolution against the new job scheme. But out of courtesy, it was decided at a meeting with the Speaker to allow a short debate on alleged corruption in the Excise Department,” he told the Opposition members. “The Chief Minister is annoyed as he knows that the alleged corruption in the Excise Department will land at his doorstep,” Sunil Kumar hit back.
