Karnataka changes alcohol pricing | India’s first alcohol-based tax system explained

Karnataka has become the first state in the country to implement the Alcohol in Beverage (AIB) excise duty structure. The move factors in the social cost of alcohol consumption — ranging from health burden and domestic violence to accidents — and imposes excise duty on the basis of alcohol content, across all categories of spirit.
