Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar has said that he will uphold and defend the Shariat laws “no matter whoever opposes it”.
He was addressing an International Milad Conference organised by the Markaz and the Kerala Muslim Jamaath here on Saturday (September 5, 2026). Mr. Musliar also said that Shariat conferences would be organised in all districts to mark the centenary of the Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama. He claimed that there would be people who would talk about the Islamic laws till the end of the world.
This remark comes days after Mr. Musliar’s statement that women should be confined to their homes. It had invited widespread criticism, including from Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan. The latest statement is widely seen as a justification of his remark.
