A high-level review meeting was held on Friday to expedite the comprehensive development of the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri and enhance facilities for the increasing number of devotees visiting the Kanaka Durga temple.
The meeting, attended by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), senior officials of the Endowments Department, district administration, police and temple authorities, reviewed both immediate infrastructure works and long-term development plans.
Among the immediate priorities is the completion of the Annaprasadam Bhavan and the Prasadam Preparation Centre (Laddu Potu) before the commencement of Shravana Masam, one of the temple’s busiest pilgrimage seasons. Officials were directed to complete the remaining works on a war-footing to ensure that the facilities are ready for devotees.
The meeting also reviewed the preparation of a comprehensive master plan to cater to the anticipated increase in pilgrim footfall over the coming years. Officials stressed the need to create infrastructure that would meet future requirements rather than merely address present demands.
As part of the proposed master plan, a multi-level parking complex has been envisaged to ease traffic congestion around the hill shrine. The proposal for a second ghat road also came up for discussion, with officials describing it as essential for better traffic management, emergency access and pilgrim safety during festivals and other peak periods.
Senior officials reviewed the technical and administrative issues delaying the projects and resolved to remove bottlenecks to facilitate their early execution.
Endowments Secretary Kannababu, Endowments Commissioner K. Ramachandra Mohan, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, Vijayawada Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Ramakrishna, Temple Trust Board Chairman Borra Radhakrishna (Gandhi), Executive Officer V. K. Seena Naik and other senior officials attended the meeting.
