Sculptor from Kalaburagi Gayatri C. Shilpi has been selected to participate in a 10-day national workshop on “Prototype and Product Development of Hand Carved Figurines on Engineered Bamboo Wood” to be held in New Delhi.

The workshop is being jointly organised by the Development Commissionerate (Handicrafts), Union Ministry of Textiles, in association with the Assam State Bamboo Mission and the National Crafts Museum and Hastkala Academy, New Delhi.

It will be held till March 4 at the National Crafts Museum and Hastkala Academy.

The programme aims to provide advanced training in developing prototypes and products using engineered bamboo wood, with a focus on hand-carved figurines.

Participants will receive hands-on guidance in working with wood, bamboo and allied material to create innovative craft products suited for contemporary markets.

Only two artists from Karnataka have been selected for the workshop and Gayatri is the sole participant from the Kalyana Karnataka region.

Gayatri has been actively engaged in sculpture and wood carving. She has served as a member of the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy. She is the daughter of senior sculptor Chandrashekhar Y. Shilpi of Kalaburagi.
