The J&K Police searched premises of members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami in seven districts of the Kashmir Valley and the capital city Srinagar on Thursday (November 27, 2025). Police officials said searches were carried out in Shopian, Anantnag, Awantipora, Shopian, Kulgam, Handwara, Budgam and Pulwama .

In Srinagar, police searched madrassas and masjids across all zones. Officials said the searches form part of a continued effort to dismantle the terror support ecosystem in Srinagar and to prevent any acts aimed at disturbing peace and public order. Search teams were accompanied by executive magistrates and independent witnesses

Police stressed that the operations will continue wherever credible inputs indicate the presence of individuals or materials linked to terror or radicalised activities.

“Acting on credible information regarding suspected unlawful activities and possible links with the JeI, the Handwara police conducted a raid at Jamia Islamia Institute, Waripora, Handwara. Electronic devices recovered during the operation have been seized and are being examined,” the police said.

The police said multiple locations across seven districts were searched, targeting individuals and premises linked to the banned JeI organisation, proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Preventive action

“These large-scale operations form part of continuing preventive measures aimed at identifying and neutralising networks attempting to covertly revive the activities of proscribed organisations. All individuals with any past or present affiliation to the banned group were brought under the ambit of the searches,” the police said.

The police said electronic gadgets, along with various documents and other incriminating materials suspected to have relevance to the organisation’s clandestine activities, were seized. “These items have been seized for detailed forensic and technical examination,” the police said.

In Awantipora, the police said searches were conducted at the homes and premises of JeI members “to dismantle the terror ecosystem and its support structures.”

“During the operation, incriminating material and digital devices were recovered, and several JeI members were questioned and placed under restrictive orders,” the police said.

Police officials said, the force is “dedicated to maintaining peace, stability, and public order.”
