In a surprise move, the State Government has appointed Venkata Narayana. K, producer of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s unreleased last movie, Jananayagan, as the Special Representative to the Government of Tamil Nadu at New Delhi.

A Government Order dated June 23, 2026, issued by the Chief Secretary said the temporary post was being created for a period of one year with effect from the date, on which the appointee takes charge or till the need for it ceases.

The G.O. further said that the terms and conditions on appointment of Venkata Narayana will be issued separately.

AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran criticised the move. In a social media post, he said the people had voted for the TVK and Mr. Vijay for providing good governance, and not for indulging in ‘favouritism’. He demanded that the appointment be cancelled.

The AIADMK’s IT wing wondered whether the TVK regime was functioning as a ‘proxy’ of the Congress government in Karnataka, contending that the appointee belonged to Karnataka, and was based out of Bengaluru.
