YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy welcomed the A.P. High Court’s order directing the State government to hand over the Gade Sai Krishna custodial death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and pay ₹25 lakh as compensation to his mother within four weeks.

In a social media post, he described the judgment as “a slap in the face” to the Chandrababu Naidu government, alleging that the capital city police had committed a heinous crime without showing any remorse.

The YSRCP has been demanding a CBI investigation into the case and a comprehensive probe into the role of higher officials, including the Director General of Police and Vijayawada Police Commissioner, in the incident, he stated.

The former Chief Minister said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu should have ensured an independent investigation. Instead, he alleged, the government set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under its control to suppress the facts.

He said the government was answerable for the alleged lapses in the investigation and its failure to thoroughly examine the role of higher officials, and added, the SIT should not become a shield to protect the accused.

The CBI must bring out the full facts and clearly determine responsibility so that everyone involved in the crime could be brought to justice, he said.
