Insidious: Out of the Further opened in Indian cinemas on Friday, August 21, adding another title to an already busy theatrical slate. The American horror film arrived as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 continue their runs at the box office. Meanwhile, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa entered its second day after releasing on August 20. The Vysakh-directed action thriller got off to a stronger start on its opening day, but its Friday collections saw a decline.
With both films targeting different sections of the audience, their early box office numbers provide an indication of how they are performing in the Indian market.
Insidious: Out of the Further box office collection
The American horror film Insidious: Out of the Further was released in Indian theatres on Friday, August 21. It is the sixth instalment in the Insidious franchise and a sequel to Insidious: The Red Door.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 1.21 crore on its opening day. The English version contributed Rs 66 lakh, while the Hindi version collected Rs 43 lakh. The Tamil version earned Rs 8 lakh, followed by Rs 4 lakh from the Telugu version.
Khalifa box office collection on day 2
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s action thriller Khalifa was released on August 20 and recorded Rs 5.35 crore on its opening day, according to Sacnilk. On its second day, Friday, the film earned Rs 1.57 crore, taking its total India net collection to Rs 6.92 crore. The film saw a drop in collections compared with its opening day.
Directed by Vysakh, Khalifa revolves around gold smuggling and stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role.
7 Dogs also releases in India
Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt’s 7 Dogs also arrived in Indian cinemas on Friday. The international action crime thriller has been released in Hindi and English. The film is originally from Saudi Arabia and had a successful run in the Middle East following its release in late May. However, India box office figures for 7 Dogs were not available at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 continue their theatrical runs, while Hollywood release Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also playing in cinemas.
