The injured non-local worker, who suffered bullet wounds in a targeted terror attack on Friday (July 31, 2026) evening in south Kashmir’s Kulgam, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (August 1, 2026), taking the death toll to two.

Officials identified the victim as Bhopendra from Chhattisgarh. He was shifted to a Srinagar hospital on Friday (July 31) night with chest injuries and later succumbed.

Earlier, another non-local worker, identified as Deepak from Chhattisgarh, was shot dead in the terror attack in Kulgam’s Kelam area.

Suspected terrorists on Friday evening opened fire on the non-local workers who work at a brick kiln in Kulgam. They managed to flee the area under the cover of darkness.

Meanwhile, security forces resumed search operations in parts of south Kashmir to track the attackers. Security on the Amarnath yatra has also been beefed up.

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who condemned the brutal terror attack on labourers, directed the security forces “to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists”.

Mr. Sinha said the J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families.
