The government is considering establishment of an industrial park in the land allocated to Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group way back in 2007 in Muthukur mandal of SPSR Nellore district.

Sarvepalli MLA and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy raised a query on the floor of the Assembly on Friday (September 19) on the fate of the 7000 acres allotted to the Reliance Group for establishing a power plant, which has been kept idle for the last 18 years.

“The wetland is under canal irrigation and the farmers have not been able to cultivate for such a long period due to this uncertainty. Thousands of acres of fertile land in Nellore district are rendered waste,” the MLA said expressing concern.

Mr. Reddy appealed to the government to take a serious note of the issue and hasten the process of industrialisation in the region.

Responding to the query, Minister for Industries T.G. Bharath stated that the government was actively considering conversion of the land allocated to Reliance Group into an industrial park, which has ‘a huge potential’.

“If the group submits a proposal to this effect, the government will consider converting it into an industrial park,” he added.
