A native of Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district has lost his life in an alleged Iranian strike at the Kuwait International Airport just hours before he was scheduled to board a flight home, his family members said on Thursday (June 4, 2026) after they received information from government officials.

A resident of Ujjain town, Manzoor Ahmed (55) had been working as a tailor in Kuwait for about 30 years, and was about to travel to his hometown on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) morning for a family wedding, his son Mohammad Anas told reporters.

“He was about to come to India yesterday and had gone to the airport to catch his flight for Mumbai. He got caught in a drone strike near the terminal 1,” he said.

“His nephew is going to get married soon and he was coming for that,” Mr. Anas added.

“When we heard the news of the strike at the airport, we tried calling him but could not connect. We reached out to some of his friends there but they also had no clue. But soon we got a call from the Indian Embassy in Kuwait informing about my father’s death,” he said.

Mr. Ahmed’s elderly mother said that she had only spoken to her son on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) night and that he was excited about coming home.

“I had spoken to him around 11 on [Tuesday] night and he had left home around 6 on Wednesday morning for the flight. He was waiting at the airport. But since 9 a.m., our phone was not connecting,” she said, weeping.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack “in which an Indian national has died and several of our nationals are injured”. The MEA, however, did not disclose the victim’s identity.

“Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian population and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks,” it said.

The Embassy, in a statement around midnight on June 3, said that it was touch with the family of the deceased and is coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities for expeditious transportation of mortal remains.

Mohammed Ismail, Mr. Ahmed’s brother-in-law, said that the body is expected to arrive in India on Thursday (June 4, 2026) night.

“There’s a flight to Ahmedabad tonight and we are planning to go there to receive the body,” he said, adding that the last rites will be planned once the body reaches Ujjain.

The family has sought the local administration’s help in arranging an ambulance from Ahmedabad to bring his mortal remains home.
