Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran’s remarks on Tuesday that women in northern India were told to stay in the kitchen, while women in Tamil Nadu were told to pursue studies, has stirred a controversy. “In Tamil Nadu, we keep telling you should pursue studies. What are they saying in North India? Women should remain at home. You stay in the kitchen. You give birth to children. And that is your job,” Mr. Maran had said. He was speaking at a function in Quaid-E-Millath Government College for Women, where Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin distributed laptops to students.
