IMD predicts Thunderstorms, gusty winds in Coastal A.P. till August 18

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from August 14-17, while strong surface winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema through August 18.

The district-level warning shows thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph in several districts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the first four days. In Rayalaseema, strong surface winds are forecast at isolated places, with speeds varying between 30 and 50 kmph depending on the district and day.

In North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, and Alluri Sitharamaraju districts are under the thunderstorm and lightning warning through August 17. Visakhapatnam has the same warning through August 16, followed by a 30-40 kmph wind warning on August 17. Anakapalli has a thunderstorm warning through August 16. Kakinada, East Godavari, Yanam and Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema have 30-40 kmph wind warnings through the five-day period.

In South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, thunderstorms are forecast in NTR, Krishna and Palnadu districts through August 17. Bapatla and SPSR Nellore are also covered by thunderstorm warnings on some of the first few days, while other districts have varying wind warnings.

The seven-day forecast indicates isolated light to moderate rain or thundershowers in several districts, with light rain forecast in parts of the State on subsequent days. Visakhapatnam is likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers through August 16, followed by light rain on August 17 and 18.

Day temperatures remained above normal on Friday. Visakhapatnam recorded 34.5°C, 3°C above normal, while Kalingapatnam recorded 36.1°C, 4.1°C above normal. Jangamaheswarapuram recorded the highest maximum among the stations monitored at 38.8°C.
