The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the districts of Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, with the likelihood of intense rainfall over the next 24 hours.
The department has also issued a yellow alert for six other districts: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over the next 24 hours in these districts.
A trough extending from North Tamil Nadu to Lakshadweep at a height of 3.1 km above mean sea level is supporting rainfall activity across the State and the rainfall activity is expected to sustain for the next four days.
