The Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta on Saturday (June 13, 2026) allowed deferred placements to students who are keen on entrepreneurship. This new initiative will help MBA students get a chance to focus on their entrepreneurship journeys without completely losing the opportunity for job hunting.

In the new initiative launched by the institute this year, MBA students who want to pursue entrepreneurial ventures can choose to opt out of campus placements and immerse themselves in building their start-ups for one year. However, if they decide to seek employment opportunities later on, they will be eligible to participate in the institute’s placement process the following year.

Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Director, IIM-Calcutta said the journey at the institute will be transformative in learning, growth, and self discovery.

“Beyond acquiring knowledge and skills, it is an opportunity to cultivate leadership, integrity, and a sense of responsibility towards society. I encourage you to approach this journey with an open mind, a spirit of inquiry, and a commitment to excellence,” Prof Rai added.

The event was also attended by Ganesh Mohan, Managing Director, Bajaj Finserv Asset Management Ltd., Prof. Bhaskar Chakrabarti, Dean, Academic Programmes; and Prof. Partha Priya Datta, Chairperson, MBA Programme.

The MBA 63rd batch has 480 students, with 67% male, and 33% female students. The cohort has students from 22 states and two Union Territories. The students come from diverse backgrounds, including 54.7% from engineering, 11.5% from commerce, 10.27% from science, and 10% from arts disciplines, with the remaining students coming from other academic streams. They include 41% freshers and 59% students with prior work experience.

Pranav Adani, Managing Director of Adani Enterprises announced the continuation of the Adani Accelerated Leadership Programme (AALP), under which six top MBA students of IIM Calcutta will receive full scholarships annually for the next two years. They also announced donation of 200 bicycles for the students to help with their mobility around the vast campus space.

The institute also announced that the students will have an orientation program which they will be introduced to the history and culture of Kolkata through which they will be taken to iconic landmarks, including Belur Math, Howrah Bridge, Vidyasagar Setu, Eden Gardens, and Victoria Memorial.
