Elaborate security arrangements and prohibitory measures are in place across politically sensitive areas in Kozhikode district to ensure a peaceful culmination of the counting process and avert post-poll clashes on Monday (May 4, 2026).

The counting process is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at three centres— JDT Group of Institutions, Vellimadukunnu; Government College, Madappally; and St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Koodathayi— under tight police protection.

In view of the politically sensitive nature of the district and past instances of clashes during and after counting, District Collector and District Election Officer Snehil Kumar Singh on Sunday (May 3, 2026) invoked powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to impose necessary restrictions. As per the order, the assembly of four or more persons is prohibited within a 200-metre radius of the counting centres from 6 p.m. on Sunday. The restrictions, with exemptions for officials on counting and post-counting duties, will remain in force till 9 a.m. on May 5.
