The Kerala High Court has sought the response of the State Police Chief (SPC) on a petition filed by film producer Sheela Kurian, who alleged that former Alappuzha DySP Madhu Babu had behaved rudely and also acted in a manner outraging her modesty in February, in violation of directions issued by the SPC regarding etiquette that police personnel must follow.

She had earlier petitioned the SPC in this regard. Ms. Kurian approached the High Court, saying that no probe was conducted based on her petition, probably due to the influence that Mr. Babu wielded.

The incident that she referred to pertains to a police complaint that she made after a person to whom she had lent ₹15 lakh failed to return the money and his wife reportedly verbally abused her over phone. Ms. Kurian gave a police complaint in this regard, and she was subsequently called to the office of the DySP on February 19. The alleged behaviour by the DySP occurred at the office, where he is also said to have referred to the petitioner as a ‘woman having no righteousness’, she said in her petition.
