Mayor Gundu Sudharani has directed engineering officials to prepare comprehensive proposals under the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI)’ scheme to develop iconic tourist centres.

The Ministry of Tourism launched the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’ (SASCI) with the objective to comprehensively develop several iconic tourist places across the nation, branding and marketing them at global scale.

Addressing a meeting with Commissioner Chahat Bajpai and senior engineering officials at the GWMC headquarters on Tuesday, she instructed officials to study all aspects of the scheme and submit the final proposals by November 30.

The Mayor emphasised that locations should be identified through strategic planning and proper documentation. The proposals, she said, must focus on archaeological promotion and urban design improvements in a city known for its rich historical heritage.

Under the plan, the civic body aims to develop pedestrian-friendly pathways, strengthen urban infrastructure, and enhance public safety through CCTV surveillance. The Mayor also proposed the creation of additional green spaces, parks, and open areas, including the development of a sponge park under the Sponge City concept to improve water conservation and resilience.

Further, as part of the City Green programme, the GWMC intends to expand greenery across 50 acres and restore ancient wells to preserve Warangal’s historical identity.

Mayor Sudharani directed officials to integrate these components into the SASCI proposals to secure central assistance for the city’s sustainable and heritage-oriented urban development.
