Mayor Gundu Sudharani emphasised the need for an 80-100 metric tonnes (MT) capacity biomethanisation plant in the city and directed the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the same.

She along with GWMC commissioner Chahat Bajpai, attended a presentation programme organised by Shakti and PwC agencies as part of the Climate Projects Preparation Facility (CPPF) at the GWMC headquarters on Monday.

During the interaction with these agencies, the Mayor said that the civic body had already identified 10 acres of land for the project. The agencies will conduct a micro-level study of the city’s sanitation policies, suggest methods for segregating wet and dry garbage, and examine garbage collection, transportation and dumping yard processes.

The plant would be designed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.

The Climate Projects Preparation Facility (CPPF) aims to support Indian cities in delivering climate-focused urban projects through PPP models and attracting private capital. It provides technical and transaction advisory services to cities and States across the project development spectrum.
