With the impact of Cyclone Montha beginning to be felt in Guntur city, Commissioner of Guntur Municipal Corporation Puli Srinivasulu has appealed to all residents living in old and dilapidated structures to vacate them immediately in the interest of their safety.

The Commissioner said on Monday that urban planning officials have already issued notices to occupants of structurally weak buildings identified ward-wise through the respective Ward Secretariats. “Those who have received notices should not continue to stay in such unsafe buildings,” he cautioned.

Mr. Srinivasulu urged the affected residents to move temporarily to the houses of relatives or to the relief and rehabilitation centres arranged by the Guntur Municipal Corporation across the city.

He further appealed to citizens to report any dangerously old or damaged buildings in their localities by calling the GMC Command Control Room at 0863-2345103. The Commissioner stressed that the civic body was taking all possible precautionary measures to prevent casualties or property loss as the city braces for the cyclone’s full impact.
