In a sweeping move ahead of the anticipated Cabinet reshuffle, all Ministers in the Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government tendered their resignations on Thursday (October 16, 2025), clearing the way for a new team to be sworn in on Friday.

The existing council of Ministers, which had 17 members, is likely to be expanded to 22 or 23, with several new faces expected to join the Cabinet, sources told The Hindu. Nearly half of the current Ministers may be replaced in what is being described as one of the most significant reshuffles of Mr. Patel’s tenure.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 11.30 a.m. on Friday (October 17, 2025) with Governor Acharya Devvrat administering the oath, according to officials. A senior leader said the expansion may see the induction of around 10 new Ministers.

At present, the Gujarat cabinet has 17 members, including eight Cabinet-rank Ministers and eight Ministers of State (MoS). The State, with a 182-member Assembly, can have up to 27 Ministers — 15% of the total strength.

Majura MLA Harsh Sanghavi, who earlier served as Minister of State for Home and Sports, is set to be elevated to Cabinet rank, party sources said. The move is seen as part of the BJP’s strategy on promoting young leaders and rewarding performance within its state unit.

The reshuffle will also see the induction of first-time MLA Rivaba Jadeja from Jamnagar, the wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, marking her debut in the state Cabinet.

The reshuffle follows the appointment of Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma as the new BJP state president earlier this month, replacing Union Minister C R Paatil.

Mr. Bhupendra Patel took oath as Chief Minister for the second time on December 12, 2022.
