Members of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organisations (FAPTO) have urged the School Education Department authorities to sanction Earned Leave (EL) to teachers conducting special and remedial classes for students who failed the 2026 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations during the ongoing summer vacation.

In a representation submitted to Director of School Education Thameem Ansariya on Saturday, FAPTO members referred to the orders issued by the authorities for conducting special and remedial classes for SSC failed students and said teachers would extend necessary guidance to help improve the pass percentage.

However, they pointed out that students who failed in the examinations were generally irregular in attending school and that a majority of them were unlikely to attend the remedial classes regularly. Their attendance, they said, depended largely on residential, social and economic conditions at the ground level. In such circumstances, higher officials should not exert pressure on teachers regarding student attendance, they added.

The federation suggested that, to improve attendance among failed students, special residential remedial classes be organised separately for girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and for boys in Model Schools at mandal headquarters. Since teachers attending the remedial classes were working during summer holidays, EL should be sanctioned to them as per rules, they said.

Referring to oral instructions allegedly issued to headmasters and teachers to participate in the “Badi Pilustondi” enrolment drive, the federation demanded that proper written orders be issued instead and EL sanctioned accordingly.

The FAPTO members said teachers were being engaged in one programme or another every year during vacation holidays. If the intention was to make them work throughout the vacation period, the present “Vacation Department” system should be reviewed and changed into a “Non-Vacation Department”, they added.

Those who signed the representation included federation State general secretary S. Chiranjeevi, chairman L. Sai Nivas, co-chairmen K. Narahari, C. Venkateswarlu and K. Prakasha Rao, deputy secretary-generals N. Venkateswarlu, K. Basava Linga Rao and G. Nivasa Rao, secretaries Syed Iqbal, M. Praveen Kumar and D. Madhusudhan Rao, and treasurer Ch. Subba Rao.
