The State government has granted administrative sanction for the construction of the stretch between HMT and NAD, which forms part of the second phase of the Seaport-Airport Road project, at a cost of ₹17.31 crore.

A review meeting convened by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve resolved to initiate tender formalities promptly upon receipt of technical sanction. The road will be constructed with a width of 45 metres and a length of 600 metres at HMT. The land cost has already been deposited in the designated bank account in compliance with the Supreme Court directive.

The Revenue department is in the process of securing the land handover. Measurement of the construction site, which falls within HMT’s 215 hectares, will also be completed shortly.

Efforts to expedite the construction of the road near NAD will also be intensified. The government has already allocated ₹32.26 crore to be paid to NAD. As the sketch for this area has already been prepared, delays in subsequent procedures are unlikely. The tender for widening the NAD–Thorappu Road will also be initiated shortly.

The tender for the NAD–Mahilalayam stretch will be issued in December. Land acquisition for the 6.50 km stretch is nearing completion. KIIFB has already allocated ₹569.34 crores for acquiring the land.
