Health Minister K. Muraleedharan has said that the State government remains firm on its stance that it will not compromise on its decision to reserve 50% of seats for merit-based admissions to Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) course from this academic year. Challenging the government’s decision, the Kerala State Self Financing Pharmacy College Management Association has approached the High Court, seeking permission to continue admissions to all Pharm D seats independently.
In a statement, the office of the Health Minister stated that the government’s decision to introduce a 50% merit quota is aimed at ensuring that deserving students are not denied admission solely because they cannot afford the higher fees associated with management admissions.
Mr. Muraleedharan recently held discussions with representatives of the association, during which the managements reiterated their main demand. Nonetheless, the Minister indicated that the government could consider another demand raised by the association to transfer any merit seats remaining vacant after the admission process to the management quota.
