Andhra Pradesh Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgessh said on Saturday that the State government was committed to promoting a cultural renaissance and bringing the works of eminent literary figures to the younger generation.

He was speaking at the birth anniversary celebrations of renowned poet and Padma Bhushan awardee Boyi Bhimanna, organised by the Department of Language and Culture at the Pingali Venkayya Conference Hall on the NTR district Collectorate premises in Vijayawada.

The Minister and District Collector G. Lakshmisha paid floral tributes to Boyi Bhimanna after lighting the ceremonial lamp. Mr. Durgesh also visited a photo exhibition depicting the life and works of the eminent poet.

Noted writer and litterateur Bhusurapalli Venkateswarlu of Guntur district was presented the Boyi Bhimanna Award-2026, along with a citation, shawl and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh.

The Minister said Bhimanna had become immortal through his writings and had inspired social consciousness and awareness through his progressive literary works.

Mr. Durgesh said the government would take steps to shift the Boyi Bhimanna Kala Peetham, currently in Telangana, to Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Rajamahendravaram. He also said steps would be taken to issue identity cards to all eligible artists through the Department of Culture.

Boyi Bhimanna’s wife, Boyi Haimavathi thanked the State government for organising the celebrations and recalled his contribution to Telugu literature.
