The Government of Andhra Pradesh and Google on Tuesday (October 14, 2025) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi, to establish a massive AI-powered data centre in Visakhapatnam with an investment of ₹87,520 crore.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh, along with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and senior company officials.

The proposed data centre, with a capacity of one gigawatt, is expected to emerge as a key global hub for AI and cloud computing. It will serve sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and industry, while connecting Visakhapatnam with Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and 12 other countries through a subsea cable network.

Mr. Thomas Kurian said this is the company’s largest investment outside the United States, and that Visakhapatnam will soon become a global connectivity hub.

The project is expected to attract $15 billion (₹1.25 lakh crore) in phased investments over the next five years and help nurture world-class AI talent in India.

Mr. Naidu welcomed Google’s decision and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Nirmala Sitharaman for their support. He also appreciated IT Minister Nara Lokesh for his pivotal role in facilitating the project.

Mr. Naidu said the State’s ‘One Family, One Entrepreneur’ initiative aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, ensuring that AI technology reaches every household.  “With access to real-time and historical data, we can make faster and more informed decisions. Prime Minister Modi is a leader who swiftly embraces technology,” the Chief Minister noted.

He also stated that Prime Minister Modi is considering organizing a Global AI Conference in Visakhapatnam in February 2026, in recognition of India’s growing leadership in emerging technologies.
