Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asked his Cabinet colleagues to focus their efforts on the 36 municipalities and municipal corporations that returned hung verdicts in the recent civic polls and ensure that the Congress emerges with control in the maximum number of urban local bodies.

Chairing a meeting with Ministers, MLAs and TPCC president Mahesh Goud, the Chief Minister said that the Congress was well placed to secure a majority in the hung bodies and assessed that the party could win around 20 municipalities and corporations through coordinated political efforts and dialogue with like-minded parties and Independents.

The Chief Minister also gave specific instructions regarding the Kothagudem Municipal Corporation, where the Congress and its ally Communist Party of India (CPI) won 22 seats each, resulting in a deadlock. He gave the responsibility to Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy to resolve the issue amicably and ensure the formation of a stable council.

Similarly, Mahesh Goud and N. Uttam Kumar Reddy will be the in-charge for Nizamabad Corporation; Ministers Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar for Karimnagar Corporation to discuss with the MIM and Independents to form the Council. In Jagityal, where Congress rebels under T. Jeevan Reddy have become crucial, Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar and AICC secretary Sawant were entrusted with the responsibilty.

During the meeting, Mr. Reddy congratulated all Ministers for the Congress’s strong performance in the municipal elections and said the positive results were possible only because everyone worked collectively with discipline and coordination. He also lauded Congress party workers for their tireless efforts and commitment to the party’s victory.

The Chief Minister remarked that the Congress government had achieved in two years what the previous government failed to do in 10 years. The development works undertaken and welfare schemes implemented during this period had strengthened public faith in governance, and the civic poll results were clear evidence of that trust, he said.

Calling upon Ministers to preserve and build on this confidence, he urged them to take the State further along the development path. He advised that all future elections should be approached with the same spirit and unity that marked the recent municipal polls.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to continuously take government welfare and development programmes to the people and ensure effective outreach. He made it clear that the government’s goal was to transform Telangana’s municipalities and municipal corporations into models at the national-level.
