The body of 38-year-old K. Sowjanya, daughter of Pithapuram Panchayat Raj Department Assistant Engineer
K. Nookaraju, was retrieved from the Godavari river near Komarraju Lanka, an island in Kothapeta Mandal in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Saturday.

On August 16, K. Nooka Raju’s family, including Sowjanya, his wife Meena, 58, and his grandson, jumped into the river Godavari in an attempt to end their lives in Rajamahendravaram city. The body of Mr. Nookaraju was retrieved on August 17 while his grandson was rescued by the locals.

According to the office of the East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore, the body of Ms. Sowjanya was found at Komarraju Lanka island, 35 kilometres downstream of Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage on Wednesday during the search operation. The search operation will continue to trace Ms. Meena.

The body has been sent to the Rajamahendravaram government hospital for post-mortem.
