GI Mahotsav 3.0, an exhibition and sale of Geographical Indication (GI) products, will be held at CSIR’s CFTRI in Mysuru from December 5 to 8.
A press statement issued by CFTRI Director Giridhar Parvatam said the four-day exhibition and sale organised by NABARD – Madurai Agri Business Incubation Forum (MABIF), in collaboration with Ministry of MSME, Government of India, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), and CFTRI, will remain open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The mahotsav will host about 50 curated stalls exclusively dedicated to GI-registered artisans. These stalls will showcase and sell authentic GI products from across South India, offering visitors the opportunity to not only witness the diversity of India’s heritage crafts and product, but also to purchase them directly from the traditional producers,” said the statement.
The GI Mahotsav 3.0 aims to enhance market visibility for GI communities, support producers, artisans, and rural entrepreneurs while promoting sustainable livelihoods linked to traditional skills and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the GI ecosystem, it said.
Pointing out that ‘India’s extraordinary cultural, ecological, and artisanal diversity finds proud expression in its Geographical Indication (GI) products – unique creations shaped by traditional knowledge, regional practices, and community heritage’, the statement said, “Each GI product represents the skill, identity, and legacy of the communities that have preserved these traditions over generations.”
The GI Mahotsav 3.0 is part of the series of national GI events spearheaded by the Ministry of MSME to promote India’s vibrant GI ecosystem and strengthen market linkages for traditional producers.
The inaugural session on December 5 will also include the signing of a memorandum of understanding between MABIF and CSIR-CFTRI aimed at fostering innovation, research collaboration, and entrepreneurial support in GI and agri-food ecosystem. This will be followed by the launch of several start-up products. Prize winners of the recently held GI Hackathon will also be announced during the opening ceremony.
The inaugural ceremony will be attended by Executive Director and CEO of NABARD-MABIF K. Ganesh Moorthy; CFTRI Director Giridhar Parvatam; MSME Joint Director Devaraj; Dean, TNAU, Madurai, P.P. Mahendran; Director, Agri-Business Management, TNAU, Coimbatore, E. Somasundaram, and Director of IIMP S. Senthil Vinayagam.
During the course of the mahotsav, daily technical sessions by eminent personalities on cutting edge topics. Cultural programmes celebrating the regional arts and traditions, success story presentations by GI associations, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and start-ups will be held during a special session at the valedictory ceremony on December 8.
