GBA elections within December, Local body elections by March-end: CM

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said that civic polls for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be held by the end of December, and other local body elections will be completed by the end of March, 2027.

Mr. Shivakumar said the Supreme Court was approached seeking time until December 31 to conduct the polls due to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The Supreme Court has granted the extension.

“Besides the GBA elections, polls to district, taluk, gram panchayat and municipal local bodies are expected to be completed by the end of March,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the Congress would provide opportunities for youth and new faces in the forthcoming local body elections, from Gram Panchayats to municipal corporations.

Mr. Shivakumar added that the government is committed to implementing the spirit of the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments to strengthen local self-governance and deepen decentralisation of power.
