In a step that could pave a way for construction of the proposed fishing jetty at Yarada, Gajuwaka MLA and TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao on Monday led an official delegation of five departments to review the proposal and give a push to its completion.

After nearly two decades, the coordinated participation of five departments is being viewed as a decisive step towards advancing the livelihoods of the region’s fishing community, said Mr Srinivasa Rao. During the site inspection undertaken for the proposed fishing jetty catering to fishermen from Gangavaram and Dibbapalem, Mr. Srinivasa Rao engaged directly with local fishing communities to assess their needs, fleet strength, and prevailing livelihood conditions.

Senior officials of the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board, Visakhapatnam Port Authority, Gangavaram Port, Fisheries Department were part of the delegation. Representatives from the Special Deputy Collector’s office, along with fishermen from Gangavaram and Dibbapalem, were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rao underscored that the construction of a fishing jetty and breakwaters at Yarada would serve as a critical infrastructural intervention to stabilise and enhance fishermen’s livelihoods. He observed that the project would not only mitigate risks encountered during deep-sea fishing but also significantly improve safety standards. He directed the concerned authorities to undertake a comprehensive technical evaluation at the earliest and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) without delay, emphasising that procedural bottlenecks must not impede implementation.

Reiterating the coalition government’s commitment to coastal development and fishermen’s welfare, he noted that several neglected projects are now being revived and expedited through inter-departmental coordination. Such collaborative efforts, he said, are imparting renewed momentum to development initiatives across the region.

Mr. Rao further stated that the government is moving forward with a clear and structured plan to transform the Yarada region into a focal point of growth for the fisheries sector.
