The Hindu Made of Chennai’s food and music festival attracted around 16,000 people on Day 1 at YMCA, Nandanam on Saturday.

The grounds turned into a celebration with nearly 40 food joints selling everything from biriyani and kombucha to Mexican wraps, while the music festival showcased the scene of Chennai, including gaana, rap, folk and cinema melodies.

The event started with DJ Suman and Johnny Beats setting the mood. The line-up of performances featured artist Gana Balachandar followed by the band, Anthony in Party. The night came to a close with Pradeep Kumar.

Minutes before stepping on stage, Gana Balachandar said, “We have performed on many small stages. All of that has led us here, to the Made of Chennai stage, which is an experience to remember.”

After an electrifying performance, it was time for Anthony Daasan, who lifted the evening mood with 40-odd folk songs. “We are thankful to the Chennai audience for welcoming us with open arms. It is heartening to see all kinds of music celebrated here, instead of focusing on just one,” Mr. Daasan said.

For Navya and Akshaya, best friends and second-year college students, the night was extra special since it was their very first outdoors music festival. “We came to listen to Pradeep Kumar, but ended up discovering so much new music and food along the way,” the duo said.

Pradeep Kumar brought the curtain down with a set of 20 melodies, while the crowd sang and danced along every step of the way.

Day 2 Made of Chennai food and music festival line-up includes Chennai Hip Hop Set – All For One Dance Crew, Paul Jacob and Funkybodhi Ft. Chinna Ponnu, Oorka, Thaikkudam Bridge.

The Hindu Made of Chennai is presented by Casagrand and powered by SRM. Associate Partners: Tata Tea Chakra Gold, Tata Coffee, Orchids International School, Hell Energy. Artist partner: ACTC. Food Curation partner: Annam by Shabnam. Hospital partner: Apollo Hospital.

Video partner: Sight Media. The event is also done in partnership with Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, Greater Chennai Corporation, Greater Chennai Police, Greater Chennai Traffic Police and Namma Marina, Namma Pride. Radio Partners: Big FM, Fever FM and Radio One.
