A four-year-old girl was killed and three others, including two other children, injured after hollow bricks fell from the fourth floor of an under construction building at Chinnapannahalli in the HAL police station limits on Thursday.

According to the police, the incident occurred between 3 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. when around 10 to 12 hollow bricks fell from the upper floor of a building under construction and landed on a makeshift cement-sheet adjacent to the construction site.

Many families, who were migrant labourers, used the shed as a house.

The police identified the building owner as Srinivasulu, who was allegedly carrying out construction work without adopting adequate safety measures or precautions, a police official claimed.

“The deceased child has been identified as Manushree, also known as Paru, daughter of Shrishail. She was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead,” the police official said.

Three others who sustained injuries have been identified as Shriyan, 6, and Shekhar, 5, and Mamatha, 30, wife of Shrishail. The injured children were undergoing treatment, while Mamatha also received medical attention for her injuries.

The police said the affected family members are residents of Bhoragi village in Sindagi taluk of Vijayapura district and had been living in the cement-sheet shed located beside the site.

The HAL police have registered a case. “Action will be taken based on the findings, including whether negligence and violation of safety norms at the construction site led to the fatal accident,” the official added.
