Four persons, including a mother-son duo and two girls belonging to separate families, drowned in a pond at Dhaba village in Wankidi mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Saturday.

According to sources, the deceased were identified as Nirmala Bai, 35, her 12-year-old son Gannu, their neighbours – Maheshwari and Sashikala, both aged around nine years, natives of Dhaba village.

The three children fell into a pond while playing near a farm, where Nirmala Bai was working on the outskirts of the village late on Saturday afternoon. On hearing their screams, Nirmala Bai rushed to their rescue, but she too met a watery grave in the pond, sources added. Their bodies were fished out by the police with the help of local villagers later. The tragic incident left the family members of the deceased devastated.
