Burglars decamped 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery, two kgs of silver objects and ₹50,000 cash from four houses of weavers at Mamandur village near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday.

Police said the victims were identified as K. Anandan (36), V. Ramasamy (39), S. Balaji (39) and R. Vinod Kumar (28). They are weavers in the village. Initial inquiry revealed that the four weavers were living with their families in the village for many years. Along with their families, they left to their native places like Thiruchendur, Ranipet, Cheyyar and Chengelpattu to attend temple and family functions a few days ago.

When the families returned, they found cupboards and almirah were broken. Valuables including cash, gold jewellery and silver objects were missing from them. Hard disks of CCTV cameras fixed inside the outlets were also missing and the cameras were damaged.

Immediately, they alerted Arani Taluk police, who rushed to the shop with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. Police have taken footage along the route where the shop was located. The Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Sudhakar has formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered. A probe is underway.
