The State government has submitted before the Kerala High Court that the Sub Collector, Fort Kochi, will function as the nodal officer of the Marine Drive Coordination Committee to ensure the upkeep of the Marine Drive walkway.

A telephone number, e-mail address, and a social media facility have been made available for people to register complaints. In addition, a dedicated mobile number with WhatApp will be taken in the Sub Collector’s name, all within a fortnight, said the Principal Secretary of the Local Self Government department in an affidavit.

The official further explained the delay in complying with the court’s order in April in this regard. In view of the unconditional apology, the High Court dropped the contempt jurisdiction in the case.

The High Court had on April 7 ordered that the coordination committee be constituted within four weeks, while considering a contempt of court plea by Renjith G. Thampy of Ernakulam. But there was a delay of five months in that.
