The special investigation team (SIT) investigating the alleged misappropriation of gold from the Sabarimala temple arrested former Travancore Devaswom Board member K.P. Sankar Das at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

The Kerala High Court had two days ago strongly criticised the SIT for its alleged delay in arresting Mr. Sankar Das. He was being treated at the intensive care unit of the hospital for the last few days. He was arrested shortly after he was shifted to a room.

The investigation team also subsequently informed the Kollam Principal Sessions Court about the arrest.

Earlier in the day, the court had considered Mr. Sankar Das’s anticipatory bail plea. The hearing was adjourned to Friday after the prosecution requested more time to produce the report from the medical board that examined him.

Mr. Sankar Das, the 11thaccused in the case, was a member when A. Padmakumar was the president of the TDB.
