Former president of Varalotti panchayat, V. Tirupathi (57), was hacked to death by an armed gang near Villipathiri in Virudhunagar district on Tuesday (March 10, 2026) night.

The police said Tirupathi was returning home on his motorbike after visiting Virudhunagar on Tuesday night. When he was near Villipathiri, an armed gang waylaid him at around 9 p.m. They pushed him off the bike and attacked him with weapons. He died on the spot, and the gang fled the scene.

The Mallankinaru police are investigating the case. They have picked up two local persons for questioning. The body was sent to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
