Former BRS MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy remains in critical condition at Hyderabad hospital, neurological status under evaluation

HYDERABAD

Former BRS MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy remains critical, under advanced critical care at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, following a severe medical emergency involving a massive pulmonary embolism and cardiac arrest.

​According to a health bulletin released by Yashoda Hospitals on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy was initially admitted to Rohini Hospital in Warangal on July 26 after suffering a massive pulmonary embolism that led to haemodynamic collapse and shock. Medical teams successfully revived him following multiple rounds of CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) measures, which involved approximately 45 minutes of downtime before return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) was obtained. Thrombolysis was administered at the hospital prior to his transfer to Yashoda Hospitals.

​Upon admission to the Advanced Critical Care Unit at Yashoda Hospitals, doctors reported that his hemodynamics are well-maintained using IV fluids and low-dose pressors, while his respiratory status is being supported with lung-protective strategies on a mechanical ventilator. His vitals currently remain reasonably stable with minimal support.

​However, doctors expressed concern regarding his neurological recovery. “Due to the prolonged period of downtime during cardiac arrest, the patient has not shown any meaningful neurological response to verbal or painful stimuli since admission, even in the absence of sedatives. Diagnostic evaluations, including EEG, brain MRI, and Transcranial Doppler (TCD) scans, indicate features suggestive of anoxic brain damage,” the bulletin said.

​Dr. G. Vijay Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, stated in the bulletin that the medical team is following national and international neuro-status assessment guidelines for prognostication.

A formal 72-hour reassessment of his neurological status is planned on Wednesday, to better determine his long-term prognosis. ​Hospital authorities confirmed that Mr. Reddy’s family is being continuously updated regarding his condition and medical outlook.
