The Fort Kochi police have registered a case over alleged sexual assault of a foreign national woman who was in the city to attend the ongoing Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

The case was registered on Saturday based on a email complaint lodged by the woman, who has already left the city, a police officer said.

The complainant has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a man from Mumbai in January when she was at Fort Kochi to attend the art show. The police officer said they were yet to verify the identity of the alleged offender.

The accused have been charged with sexual assault and stalking under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the officer said.
