With an annual growth rate of 10%, the State’s food and beverages industry is thriving despite the odds, said M. Venkadasubbu, president, Tamil Nadu Hotels’ Association (TNHA). At present, the business is estimated to be worth more than ₹45,000 crore.
The industry, which is mainly centred around the cities and tourist destinations, is looking to make businesses successful in the State, which is witnessing rapid urbanisation and population growth.
“There are many small businesses that fail to take off due to various reasons. As an industry body, we wanted to train the next generation to survive and thrive in a competitive environment,” Mr. Venkadasubbu told The Hindu on the sidelines of UNAVU Expo 2026, a three-day B2B business platform for food, food-service, and hospitality ecosystems.
Training programmes are being conducted for aspiring entrepreneurs and those already in the industry at the expo organised by the TNHA at the Chennai Trade Centre. Food Minister Venkataramanan inaugurated the event.
The exhibition showcases equipment and solutions for commercial kitchens and food services, along with food and beverage products, refrigeration and cold-chain systems, food processing and packaging, hospitality technology, AI and automation, energy and water management, hygiene and safety, interiors and furniture, laundry and facility management, and professional services.
