The Eluru district police have busted a five-member gang allegedly involved in several chain-snatching cases reported from various districts in Andhra Pradesh.

The gang would steal bikes and resort to chain-snatching, the police said, adding that four bikes and gold ornaments weighing 65 grams had been seized from their possession.

The accused have been identified as N. Venkatesh, T. Durga Rao, T. Ramudu, A. Nagesh and G. Nagaraju, all natives of Eluru and West Godavari districts.

Eluru Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore said the gang allegedly committed crimes in Dwaraka Tirumala, Guntur, Hanuman Junction, Vijayawada, Gudivada, Mandapeta, Atreyapuram, Nidamarru, Ravulapalem, Tadepalligudem and other places.

A police team led by Eluru DSP D. Sravan Kumar, Jangareddygudem DSP U. Ravi Chandra and Nidamarru CI Rajani Kumar arrested the gang members near Narayanapuram on Wednesday, the SP said.
