The police have registered a Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) case against five, including a 15-year-old boy, allegedly for sexually abusing and raping a 16-year-old girl in Kerala.

The case was registered by the Chandera police in Kasaragod. The accused include the girl’s 45-year-old brother-in-law, who died of illness two months ago, the 15-year-old boy, a sports shop owner, a poultry shop owner and an ambulance driver named Rashid, who fled to the Gulf two weeks ago.

The police have arrested two suspects – the poultry shop owner Noushad (42) and Fayis (40). Both will undergo medical examination before being produced before the Hosdurg Judicial Magistrate Court

The abuse came to light when the girl’s family caught Noushad sexually assaulting her at their house.

Child Welfare authorities arrived afterwards, counselled the girl and uncovered the details of the gang rape. Investigation revealed that the 16-year-old endured severe sexual exploitation for about a year.
