The first session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 2026 will commence at 9.30 a.m. on January 20, 2026, with the customary Governor’s address, Speaker M. Appavu announced on Friday (December 26, 2025).

Speaking to reporters at his chamber at the Secretariat-cum-Assembly complex in Fort St. George here, the Speaker said following the Governor’s address, the House’s Business Advisory Committee would decide the duration of the session.

He said the customs followed in the Assembly would not be altered and expressed hope that “the Governor would safeguard the dignity of the House.” He was responding to a question by reporters on the first session of the Assembly on January 6, 2025, when Governor R.N. Ravi walked out of the House without reading the customary address, alleging an “insult” to the national anthem.
