Fine imposed for violating bind-over conditions

A fine of ₹50,000 has been imposed on a person found violating bind-over conditions.

According to Dharmavaram I Town circle inspector Reddappa, 33-year-old Dhanunjaya, who hails from Cherlopalli village in Bathalapalli Mandal and currently residing in YSR Colony, was identified as buying PDS rice at low prices from ration shops and selling it in Karnataka and other areas for profit.

Cases have been registered against Dhanunjaya under Section 7(1) of the Essential Commodities Act. After the first case, he was bound over on a bond of ₹5 lakh in the presence of the MRO.

However, it was found that he had violated the terms of the ‘bind-over’ bond by engaging in criminal activities again and so was produced before the MRO in accordance with the relevant regulations and a fine of ₹50,000 was imposed as per the bond’s forfeiture clauses. The accused has deposited the fine amount into the Treasury through a challan.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Reddappa said individuals subject to bind-over orders would face fines and other legal actions if they engaged in further criminal activities. Mr. Reddappa further said strict action would continue against those involved in the illegal purchase, storage, transportation, or sale of PDS rice.
