Private schools in Tamil Nadu intending to renew their certificate of recognition were to submit among others, a copy of the fee determination order that was currently valid and in force. The School Education Department has recently amended the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Rules, 2023 to include a fresh sub-rule in this regard.

“Schools applying for renewal of recognition shall submit a copy of the fee determination order that is currently valid and in force, issued by the Tamil Nadu Schools Fee Determination Committee under the Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Act, 2009,” said the fresh sub-rule introduced a few weeks ago.

According to the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Rules, 2023, application for renewal of recognition was to be made within three months prior to the date of expiry of the period of the certificate of recognition or renewal of certificate of recognition, as the case may be. Prescribed fee was to be paid, as specified for play, nursery, primary, middle, high and higher secondary school, as the case may be.

‘The procedure applicable to the grant of certificate of recognition shall apply to the renewal of certificate of recognition. The certificate of recognition shall be renewed for the period specified in the structural stability certificate or the building licence whichever is earlier,” another sub-rule said. There are 12,970 private schools with 63.42 lakh students in the State under the supervision of the Directorate of Private Schools.
