Tension prevailed in Palnadu district after a man alleged that his daughter died under suspicious circumstances at a police station during an inquiry into a complaint she had filed against a police constable.

According to the police, in a complaint lodged at the Krosuru police station, Chandrababu Pallepu, a resident of Chirala in Bapatla district, alleged that his daughter was killed at the Circle Inspector’s office in Krosuru on May 5. The issue surfaced lately.

The woman, who had obtained a divorce in 2018, had reportedly lodged a complaint in 2021 against police constable P. Venkateswara Reddy, accusing him of having an extra-marital relationship with her and later refusing to marry her despite earlier assurances, the police said. The constable is currently posted in Palnadu district.

The police had called the woman for an inquiry into the case on May 5. Later the same day, she was found dead on the police station premises, leading her family to suspect foul play.

Palnadu Superintendent of Police B. Krishna Rao said the woman appeared weak when she arrived for the inquiry. According to the SP, police personnel offered her food after noticing her condition. He said she later vomited and accidentally fell from the first floor of the building during the episode. She reportedly suffered seizures and was shifted to a hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

Mr. Rao said the family was informed immediately after the incident, and initially declined to take custody of the body but later took it. Investigations are under way.
