A 68-year-old farmer, Dondapati Ramarao, of Mandadam village in Amaravati region died of a heart attack on Friday while attending a meeting related to land acquisition for the construction of a road.
Ramarao participated in the meeting organised for landowners whose lands are proposed to be acquired for road works. Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister P. Narayana and Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar also took part in the meeting.
During the interaction, Ramarao told officials that he had no objection to part with the land on which he built his house for the project, but urged the authorities to provide an alternative house site at a suitable location.
Ramarao requested that all those losing their houses near Thallayapalem to the project be allotted plots in one place, preferably along the Seed Access Road, with basic infrastructure and facilities. After explaining his demands, he sat on a chair and suddenly collapsed, according to locals.
Family members and locals immediately rushed Ramarao to a hospital in a government vehicle provided by the Minister. He died on the way to the hospital, the doctors said, attributing the cause of death to heart attack.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Tadikonda constituency in-charge Vanama Bala Vajra Babu alleged that Ramarao’s death was a result of the negligence of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and the government.
He claimed that the authorities had failed to ensure that farmers, who had given their agricultural lands earlier under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) for the construction of the capital city, received proper returnable plots.
